An Inside Look at Dylan’s 1966 European Tour

Global ImageWorks recently received high-resolution scans of all of photographer Barry Feinstein's contact sheets from Bob Dylan's 1966 European tour. These unedited frames offer a rare look into Feinstein's creative process during a pivotal moment as Dylan made his shift from folk hero to rock 'n' roll star.

"The mutual trust we had for each other is reflected in these photographs. He knew I would make him look interesting – and he was interesting. I knew I was in the presence of genius," Feinstein once reflected. "What often makes a piece of music great are the notes left out. And it's like that with photography; knowing when to take a shot and, more importantly, when not to.”

This instinct for capturing authentic moments is evident throughout the contact sheets, revealing both Dylan's transformation and the methodology behind some of rock photography's defining images, all now available for licensing through Global ImageWorks.
