Bridgeman Images Now Repping Stewkley Film Archive

Bridgeman Images is delighted to announce their latest footage partnership with UK-based Stewkley Film Archive, a fascinating collection, spanning decades, of amateur films and home movies shot by a number of local cinematographers.

Stewkley Film Archive holds digitized films from Buckinghamshire, in the county town of Aylesbury, the village of Stewkley and other locations. The earliest material, from Aylesbury, dates back to 1936 and includes celebrations for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The village material includes over 40 years of annual May Day celebrations at Stewkley School, and extensive coverage from local filmmakers and others of the village’s battle to avoid being bulldozed to make way for a brand new London Airport. The campaign lasted from the late 1960's to 1971 and threatened four villages in total. The wide range of village films covers village fetes to the celebrations of Queen Elizabeth's Silver, Diamond and Platinum Jubilees as well as other milestone events.
